If you are reading this post and have a maternity session booked with me, let me know which wardrobe options you’d like to use for your shoot. We can use any of these combinations of wardrobes…

1. Classic Sarees with a Modern Twist

Since I love sarees, I could write a whole article about this splendid attire.

One of the most popular trends for a maternity photoshoot in Bangalore is wearing a traditional saree. The saree is a traditional garment deeply rooted in many cultures. It symbolizes grace, femininity, and cultural heritage, making it a fitting choice for a milestone like maternity. The saree inherently exudes a sense of sophistication and grace.

Sarees come in a variety of fabrics, colours, and designs, allowing for a personalised and unique look. The draping style enhances the natural curves and beauty of a pregnant woman, highlighting the elegance of pregnancy. The flowing fabric and intricate details often associated with sarees add a layer of elegance to maternity photos, capturing the beauty and serenity of the expecting mother.

Opt for lightweight fabrics like chiffon, georgette, or silk that drape beautifully over your baby bump. Choose pastel shades or muted tones for a serene look, or rich, deep colours like royal blue or emerald green for a more regal appearance. by pairing your saree with a stylish blouse, perhaps one with intricate embroidery or contemporary cut-outs, to add a modern touch to this traditional attire.

In 2022, we have done our first maternity photoshoot featuring traditional attire. Since then, we have done maternity photoshoots ranging from traditional Brahmin – Madisar style to traditional Bengali attire. So if you’d like to add a cultural touch to your maternity photoshoot, we’ve got you covered.

2. Fitted Bodycon Dresses

A fitted bodycon dress can beautifully accentuate your baby bump, creating a sleek and modern look. Choose stretchy fabrics that provide comfort and support. Solid colours or simple patterns work best for a clean, contemporary look. Consider adding a statement necklace or earrings to enhance the overall outfit.

3. Draping with fabric and robes

I have LOVED this option and think it is so much fun to photograph!

I find that these can easily be adapted to any comfort level of showing skin. I drape fabric and silk robes into my studio wardrobe pretty regularly and wash them after each use so they are ready for
every shoot.

If you have a color or texture in mind, let me know!

4. Chic Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits offer a stylish and practical alternative to dresses. Opt for a jumpsuit with a cinched waist or a wrap style to define your bump. Flowy fabrics and wide-leg designs can add an element of elegance. Pair your jumpsuit with fashionable accessories and comfortable footwear to complete the look.

5. Elegant Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses are a versatile and stylish choice for maternity photoshoots. Choose a dress with a flattering empire waist or A-line silhouette to highlight your bump. Opt for luxurious fabrics like satin, silk, or lace in sophisticated colors such as deep burgundy, navy blue, or classic black. A maxi dress with subtle embellishments or a beautiful print can add a touch of glamour.

6. Use Staples from your wardrobe

Want to make it simple and easy on you without overthinking it? You can use denim, bras, trousers, or even a non-maternity outfit for your session

7. Cozy Sweater Dresses

For a cozy yet stylish look, consider a sweater dress. Opt for dresses made from soft, stretchy knit fabrics that provide warmth and comfort. Pair your sweater dress with tights and ankle boots for a chic, modern look. Neutral tones or muted colors can create a sophisticated appearance.

8. Layered Outfits

Layering can add depth and dimension to your photoshoot look. Consider a fitted tank top or camisole paired with an open cardigan, kimono, or denim jacket. This allows you to mix and match different textures and colors for a personalized style. Layers can also be easily adjusted for comfort during the shoot.

9. Minimalistic and Monochrome

For a modern and sophisticated look, consider minimalistic or monochrome outfits. A simple, well-tailored dress or a sleek saree in a single color can make a powerful statement. Accessorize with delicate jewelry and let your natural glow shine through. The key to this style is to keep it understated yet elegant.

10. Simple, not showing skin

For this option, think along the lines of a simple maternity top with jeans or a casual dress. You don’t have to show a lot of skin to be beautiful and sexy!

11. Showing some skin

This idea is perfect if you want to wear an every day piece, but bring a little sass to it. Here are some creative ideas:

• A bigger button down shirt that can be loosely dropped off of the shoulders.
• A dress that we can move around in ways that are attractive and bring a little intrigue.
• Jeans with a corset
• A suit jacket with corset, paired with jeans
• Silk fabrics – draped in such a way to accentuate your beautiful pregnancy curves

Accessories and Finishing Touches

• Jewelry – Choose statement pieces that complement your outfit without overshadowing it. Pearls, diamonds, and kundan jewelry are timeless choices
• Hair and Makeup – Opt for a natural, radiant look. Soft curls, loose braids, or a sleek bun can enhance your elegance. Keep your makeup light and dewy, focusing on highlighting your features.
• Footwear – Comfort is key, but that doesn’t mean compromising on style. Choose elegant flats, embellished sandals, or low-heeled shoes that match your outfit.

What Color Should You Wear?

The reason you’re booking this maternity photo session is to show off that beautiful bump, so make sure to wear colors that will show it off. Meaning do NOT wear black or navy or any other super dark color. It hides the bump and makes it hard to see, and that’s not what you’re going for. But at the same time, you don’t want to wear bright neon colors, either. Light to medium colors

What should my partner wear?

My perspective is that your partner is with you in a maternity shoot to help tell your story and compliment you and your baby. I more than likely suggest that your partner wear something neutral and isn’t much brighter than you. I want you and your baby bump to be the main event.

What to bring?

• Do your best not to wear anything to your shoot that may leave a mark on your skin. The worst offenders are elastic hair ties around your wrist, socks or shoes that will leave strap marks. Underwear can leave marks and aren’t as easy for us to edit out of the photos with
more skin showing.
• Bring a strapless underwear to eliminate any marks on your skin or even to show over the top of fabric for an outfit.

Conclusion

Your maternity photoshoot is a celebration of new beginnings and the incredible journey of motherhood. By choosing the right attire, you can enhance the beauty of these precious moments. Whether you opt for traditional elegance or contemporary chic, remember to wear
something that makes you feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful. After all, the most important accessory is your radiant smile and the joy that comes from within.
