I said: What about my eyes?
He said: Keep them on the road.
I said: What about my passion?
He said: Keep it burning.
I said: What about my heart?
He said: Tell me what you hold inside it?
I said: Pain and sorrow.
He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the Light enters you.
― Rumi
If you are a creative and have experienced intense pain (in any form) consider that as your very source of creativity. We often think the main resources to master our craft are time, knowledge & practice.
But in all the history of humans, profound meaningful art and great performances came from experiencing deep intense emotions. There is nothing intense than emotional pain; and nothing fuels creativity than the knowing – how to channel our dark emotions.
Each one of us have a darker side. It is very much a part of us. Whether we accept it or not it lingers in our unconscious mind. Disowning the negative side does no good to us.
On the other hand embracing our darkness doesn’t require us to announce it to the world. All we have to do is to become aware of it. We don’t run away from it. We don’t sweep it under the carpet. We face it by owning it and experiencing it. And then work towards releasing that painful energy. to enhance our creativity.
Somehow the pain has this incredible potential for revelation of greater wisdom… a wisdom greater than all the knowledge out there!
